If your partner goes into the operation theater with you, he will not be able to see much. Once the set up has been done, a screen will be placed across you, so that nothing can be seen from the top of your chest downwards. As the baby is lifted out, he will be shown to you and then checked over by the pediatrician.

A spinal block is similar to epidural but in different spots in the back. But with an epidural, a fibre plastic catheter is inserted in the back and kept there for 2-3 days. Drugs then can be topped up for relief for labor pain or for cesarean section if needed. The catheter can also be kept in place for 2 days to relieve them from pain post cesarean section.

In spinal anesthesia the catheter has to be removed immediately.
